Step 1: Start with a good topic
This might seem obvious, but for a blog post to be successful, you’re going to need good content.
Good content is not just something that you find interesting or is trendy. Good content has to also provide something useful to the reader that makes it worthwhile for them to read and share your blog. It should do something for the reader like help them solve a problem or provide them with tips and information that improves their lives, or makes something easier for them.
Whether you’re providing product reviews, helpful tips, or resources like an e-book or discount codes, people want to read posts that are entertaining and provide something useful.
Step 2: Start by looking at what other bloggers are doing
You should never copy anyone else’s work but looking at the top search results and Google Questions related to your topic can inspire you and help you know where to start with your post. Read several popular posts related to your topic and see what they all have in common. See if you can apply any of those trends to your post.
Looking at Google and other posts can also help you come up with your key points for your post. You can gain insights on what kind of information people are searching for the most, what stuff is already out there, and what information might not be out there yet.
Step 3: Create the slippery slope
The sole purpose of the first sentence is to get you to read the second sentence of the copy. The sole purpose of the second sentence is to get you to read the third sentence.
It’s incredible to get people to slowly go deeper and deeper.
How to use the slippery slope
Tell the story half…then say “but first..”
How it happened, but let me get into that later.
Use opened ended questions and answer later.
Use but…then..to tell the story.
Step 4: Trendy
If you’re going to talk about an outdated topic, no one is going to be interested in what you have to say. Stay away from that.
Here are some tools to use if you want to find trending topics in your industry:
Google Trends: This tool by Google will give you the latest topics by industry depending on your search query.
You can search for topics by country, category, and time range. On top of that, you can compare multiple topics to find popular topics to write about on your blog.
Step 5: Unique
Online readers can smell mediocre duplicate content from miles. If your content is similar to what’s already available online, it doesn’t deserve more exposure. There’s no shortage of blogs rewriting the same articles with the same ideas. However, creating unique and original content will make your readers appreciate your efforts. And that’s why they’ll help you spread it.
So, before you sit down to write, ask yourself this:
Do I have unique valuable insight to add about this topic?
If the answer is no, keep looking until you find something that works.
Step 5: Keyword Optimization
Search engines can be a long-lasting source of traffic if your articles rank well in the SERPs. Organic traffic can make a large portion of your audience if you use the right keywords. Whenever you want to create an article, start with keyword research.
Find a primary keyword that has high search volume and low competition. Then, look for secondary keywords, longtail keywords, and LSI keywords to make your content stronger..
Step 6: Write For the Web
Before thinking about virality, you need to be sure the audience you already have is reading your blog.
You shouldn’t be blogging just to fill your website with content but to connect with your customers and provide them value.
Write in an engaging style:
Your content needs to be easy to read and understand. Avoid jargon and complicated words. And write in a conversational tone that engages your readers.
Step 7: Use Images, Videos, and Infographics
Blog posts with featured images get higher views and engagements online. And if you include images and infographics in your articles, you’ll get higher social shares on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
Videos are way more engaging than plain text — especially to mobile device users that make up 62% of internet users. In fact, most online readers prefer to watch videos over reading text.
